Music For Winds

Four Cinematic Scenes

Orchestration: Large Wind Ensemble.

Film music is usually written precisely to match on screen action. It helps amplify our emotions towards what we are seeing on the movie screen. Music usually conjures up a visual image for listeners even without a specific movie playing in front of us. With this piece, let your mind wander free and see what images the music calls to mind as you listen. I had some ideas in mind when I wrote it, perhaps you'll see something completely different?

Last Flight of the Lancaster.

Orchestration: Large Wind Ensemble.

I'm pleased to release a new piece for Wind Band. "Last Flight of the Lancaster" is a rip-roaring celebration of the Lancaster Bomber, instrumental in the defense of Britain during WWII. This piece is very much in the British band style, with a march, hero's theme, nazi theme and spectacular dogfight all in a challenging, fast moving piece.

Echoes of Howth

Orchestration: Large Wind Ensemble.

A three piece suite of music inspired by a visit to Howth, a charming seaside fishing village in North County Dublin. The movements evoke memories of a mansion on a hill, musicians busking in the busy streets of the village, and traditional wooden boats setting up for and racing in a sailing regatta. The piece was premiered by North County Winds in San Diego, October 4th, 2025.

A Lancaster Overture

Orchestration: Wind Ensemble Grade 4.

With a lot of the same material as Last Flight of the Lancaster above, but without the difficult dogfight section and simplified elsewhere to meet Grade 4 standards, this is a march in the British Style with a heroic them and brief evil-doers theme added for variety in the center section.
